Tooth Preservation / Periodontology

Modern dentistry consists of several specialist fields and tooth preservation (‘conservative’ dentistry) plays a central role. Prophylaxis has high priority, especially professional teeth cleaning, and forms the basis for healthy teeth.
A common problem is treating tooth pain, and in cases of toothache, the action taken is aimed at treating the nerve problem and allowing it to heal. However sometimes the only option is to remove the nerve in order to eliminate the pain, while retaining the tooth. This form of treatment is a part of endodontology.
When it is necessary to replace damage or defects in the tooth, fillings are used. In choosing our fillings we are careful to select filling materials that are mild and also take aesthetic appearance into account.
Our staff are speciallty trained in this, and like to meet your wishes regarding the aesthetic appearance of your teeth, e.g. by using different coloured materials. As part of aesthetic dentistry, we also deal with discoloured or dark teeth and recommend whitening (bleaching). For minor tooth deformities and irregularities, we can restore the aesthetic appearance of your teeth by using veneers and we also offer gap filling procedures.
When treating children we do our utmost to assuage any fears they might have and have a child friendly waiting room that helps to break down the ‘dental clinic’ atmosphere. In our consultation sessions with children we give them a gentle lead up to their dental treatment.

If the child is extremely anxious, the dental treatment can also be performed using mild anaesthetic.

Older patients can also be afraid of ‘the dentist’ as they may fear the ‘unknowns’ of many of the new treatment methods. So we clarify and explain everything, and if necessary, work in co-operation with an anaesthetist, to provide pain free treatment.

Endodontology

Endodontology is a branch of dentistry concerning the tooth’s pulp and the tissues surrounding the root of the tooth; the ‘inner life’ of the tooth so to speak. Endodontic treatment is always aimed at preserving ones own teeth. Endodontology is technically complex and can require a lot of time. We have all the advanced technology needed, such as operating microscopes, nickel and titanium operating instruments, ultra-sound, digital imaging to determine the length of the root canal etc. Cleaning and preparing the root canal system are the most important steps in endodontic treatment, and the root canal is only filled when this has been successfully completed. The filling consists of warm gutta-percha, which is a natural rubber related material.

Periodontology

The specialist field of periodontology is primarily concerned with keeping the periodontium healthy. If gum disease is already present, it can be recognised early and successfully treated, using the latest techniques and technology. Specially trained professional staff are available for this. Close monitoring prevents gum disease before it starts and also prevents further progression if it presents.

Periodontology – Diagnosis

During the preliminary consultation with the doctor treating you, your problems and wishes are discussed. Following this, a comprehensive dental examination and diagnosis is made. Taking everything into consideration, along with other specialists if necessary, an individually tailored treatment plan is created and explained in detail. Also, all the consultation and examination findings, possible treatment options, and therapies to deal with the problems, are presented to you, as well as the time and costs involved. After this you are free to think the offer over, check it and come to a decision in your own time. We are happy for you to input your wishes regarding the time frame for your treatment. If necessary, we will provide an interpreter specialised in medical matters, to be at your side from the diagnosis to the final phase of your treatment. Also, treatment documents in your desired language can be provided.
