Laser Treatment / Wrinkle Treatment Using Erbium YAG Laser

The latest laser treatment is ideal for fine wrinkles or pigment problems. The Erbium-YAG-Laser breaks down the surface layer of the skin causing it to shed, removing  pigment problems and wrinkles. The laser treatment leads to regeneration of the skin cells stimulating collagen production and smoothing out the treated areas. The operation may serve as a complementary procedure to other aesthetic procedures such as a face tightening (facelift) or brow lift.

What does Laser Treatment involve?

A day before the treatment you will begin antiviral therapy in the form of herpes zoster prophylaxis tablets, which continues for 5 days after the procedure. Mild anaesthetic, possibly combined with sedation may, or may not, be necessary depending on the area being treated. Protective contact lenses are placed in the eyes  to protect them from the laser. During the laser therapy you will hear loud noises, however, this is completely normal and nothing to be concerned about. The treatment takes approximately 15-30 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.

After the Laser Treatment

After the treatment there can be a little swelling and slight pain. This can be relieved with cooling. The skin can be washed and an anti-infection cream should be applied several times daily. The healing phase takes about 5-7 days, however, the redness may need several weeks to completely disappear. During this time you should avoid exposing the treated areas to direct sunlight. The Erbium-YAG laser can also be used as an operative procedure for treating other troublesome skin problems such as age related wards (seborrheic keratosis), Xanthelasma (skin problems around the eyelids), pigment disturbances etc. Usually a local anaesthetic is not necessary for the procedure.
